  Dial Up Broadband Mail Controller

MailController is a fully managed service, providing customers with complete protection from viruses, malicious content and spam hidden inside Internet email. Because MailController is a managed service there is no hardware or software expenditure, you simply subscribe to the service. The on-line customer management portal gives you the ability to set-up, manage and control your mail in terms of configurable spam thresholds, white list, black lists and delivery reports. MailController is a service that filters all your inbound (and outbound) Internet e-mail.  It scans your inbound e-mail before it reaches your network and filters out unwanted messages, based on a policy defined by your mail administrator. Typically MailController is used to filter out e-mails containing viruses and spam (junk e-mail), although MailController is also able to block other types of content, such as messages containing movie files or executable files.

How will it affect me? Generally you won’t be aware that MailController is being used.  All your Internet e-mail will continue to be delivered as normal, except you should notice a reduction in the volume of junk e-mail you receive.
Occasionally you might receive a notification message from MailController telling you that a message has been blocked.  This normally only occurs if someone has tried to send you an e-mail containing a virus or some other type of content which is not permitted. Inside the notification message you will see a URL (a link to a web page) that you can click on to find out why the message was quarantined

How does MailController deal with Spam? All messages passing through MailController are analysed and given a ‘spam score’.  The higher the score the more likely the message is to be junk.  Your company has set a spam threshold and all e-mail scoring over this threshold will be classified as spam. Once classified as spam, messages are typically ‘quarantined’ and stored for 30 days. When spam messages are quarantined, you as the intended recipient are NOT notified that the message was blocked; If you were notified every time a spam message was blocked, you would quickly become very irritated with the notification messages! It is possible for MailController to ‘Tag’ spam messages; this means the spam message is delivered as normal, but the word “SPAM:” is added to the subject line of the e-mail.

How do I know which messages have been blocked? MailController can provide a Message Report detailing all the e-mail processed for your e-mail address, including those messages that were blocked.
